Have we finally got a non-animated film at the top of this weeks Box Office? Has Deadpool & Wolverine managed to knock Despicable Me 4 off and claim the top spot for superhero lovers everywhere? Or are they no match for the pulling power of family friendly films? Let’s take a look at this weeks Top 10 and Top 3 trailers!
- Deadpool & Wolverine – £17,276,621 (first week)
It’s no surprise that Deadpool & Wolverine are at Number One this week but I am genuinely surprised at just how much it brought in! Just to put into this into context, this film has made more in just a few days of being released than Despicable Me 4 did in it’s whole first two weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if D&W hits the BILLION worldwide box office takings in the next few weeks. I went to see it at a midnight screening and people were LOVING it (myself included) so I would bet that people will go back over and over again for multiple screenings.
2. Despicable Me 4 – £3,115,175 (£25,310,646)
Gru and his Minions were knocked off the top spot this week but still brought in a respectable amount of ticket sales considering that the film has been out for three weeks now.
3. Twisters – £1.497.514 (BO Total – £7.944,986)
It’s the second week of release for Twisters and it has seen a considerable drop in income from the first week but that’s to be expected as most adult cinemagoers will be going to D&W while most younger ones will be going to see something animated.
I do hope that this hangs around in the Top 10 for a while for a couple of reasons. 1. I want anything with Glen Powell in it to do well, 2. It’s nice to see something that isn’t a straight sequel do well and 3. This is the kind of summer blockbuster that I would love to see return to our screens to help buoy up the cinema market for years to come.
4. Inside Out 2- £724,320 (BO Total – £50,117,466)
We are on Week seven of Inside Out 2, there’s not much else to say about it except that the success is sure to spawn a third!
5. Longlegs – £724,320 (BO Total – £5,689,629)
Am I delighted to see a horror/thriller movie break the £5 million mark? Yes! Is this one of the most divisive films I’ve seen in the last couple of years? Yes! Has it lived in my head rent-free since I’ve seen it as I decide if it was actually good or not? YES! You should check it out and decide for yourself.
6. A Quiet Place: Day One- £168,232 (BO Total – £9,511,528)
Proof that alien horror movies might just be the theme of summer 2024. First this and then Alien: Romulus in a couple of weeks time.
7. Raayan – £149,511 (first week)
Look like it’s a revenge thriller movie. The first of two Indian language films in this weeks Top 10.
8. Bad Newz – £59,607 (BO Total – £225,070)
It’s not very often that you see an Indian language film in the Top 10 for two weeks. They usually appear and disappear within a week. So it’s nice to see that Bad Newz has a bit of longevity.
9. I Saw The TV Glow – £59,149 (first week)
This may seem like a small figure money-wise but considering that this film was on limited release for one week only, I’m delighted to see it break into the top 10 (especially considering some of the major players at the top of the chart). I was gutted to miss this in my local cinema but the reviews and the buzz around this film makes me hope that it will have a re-release or find legs somewhere else. I will definitely be tracking it down somewhere.
10. Fly Me to the Moon – £41,401 (BO Total – £1,610,896)
Last gasp in the Top 10 for this Tatum/Johanson movie, pretty sure this won’t be here next week but always good to see some variety and films that cater for all tastes.
Things to look for next week…
- I think the Top 3 will stay pretty much the same. Nothing is coming out that could even threaten the top few spots. Zachary Levi will appear in the top 10 with Harold and the Purple Crayon but it will chart mid-level.
